Inertia of rest
Definition:
Inertia of rest is the tendency of a body to remain at rest unless acted upon by an external force.
Explanation:
When an object is not moving, it naturally resists any attempt to make it move. This resistance to change from a resting state is called inertia of rest.
Examples:
- A book placed on a table stays there until someone pushes or lifts it.
- When a bus suddenly starts moving, passengers lean backward because their bodies tend to remain at rest.
